Douglas County School Based Health Center

What is the Douglas County School Based Health Center?

The Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) has been granted funds for the planning and implementation of a School Based Health Center (SBHC) within Douglas County. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, SBHCs are responsible for providing comprehensive primary and preventative physical, mental health, and health education services for students and their families. Some services provided may be limited, based on local need and expertise. However referral opportunities will be available as these instances may occur. The SBHC will be located at 1250 E US HWY 36, Tuscola, Illinois 61953 at the main DCHD building. Currently, the SBHC has hired a provider for primary and acute care services, and is looking for mental health provider options.

The structure of the SBHC currently consists of an advisory board composed of educators, community members, health department employees, and individuals employed by Douglas County in various roles. While organizing the operational details of the SBHC, the Douglas County Health Department wishes to collect ideas, interest, and data regarding individuals within Douglas County who may be open to receiving services provided by the SBHC. We are also interested in better understanding the healthcare coverage of the student and family populations served.

Thank you for learning about our new and exciting SBHC opportunity to expand our reach into specific Douglas County populations. For more information, please contact Abby Hendren at or 217.253.4137 ext. 1228. We hope to continuously share information regarding the SBHC developments as they progress!
